Teflon Bone Folder?
We use two of these handy little guys a dozen times every day. In
addition to using them in the repair of books and dustjackets, we
reach for them
to
smoothen
mailing labels and shipping tape. We even use them to crease kozo
paper before tearing, and to trace out the shape of the chip that
we're reparing.
We
still own traditional bone folders, but we don't even
know
where
they are
stored.
It has
been years since we used a traditional bone folder. The
difference between the old style bone folder and this new version
is noticeable.
A Teflon
bone folder resembles the traditional bone folder used by Origami
artists,
crafts
folks,
bookbinders,
book
repair
conservators
and others.
Unlike a folder made from real bone, these folders are machined
from Teflon. One
end
is pointed while
the other is square cut with a bevel. The two sizes give
you a range of abilities to work with any paper problem.
In a nutshell: If you want friction, use a traditional
bone folder. Your Teflon bone folder will not mark, burnish or
damage
delicate
paper,
cloth
or leather. Period.
